Newcastle Women to play at St James' Park again as Becky Langley sets ambitious attendance target

Newcastle United Women will be back at St James' Park for the third time later this year as they take on Bradford City Women in the FA Women's National League Division One North on Sunday, April 16. Becky Langley's side have a 100 per cent record when playing at the home of the men's side and will be hoping to make it three out of three when they welcome the Bantams to the north east.

The Lady Magpies have already attracted bumpers crowds for both of their two previous clashes, attracting 22,134 and 28,565 spectators for games with against Alnwick Town and Barnsley respectively. However, manager Becky Langley wants to go one better next time.

"I think it would be absolutely amazing if we could get 30,000 people in here for a women's game. The [last two] crowds combined is absolutely fantastic and we've had equally brilliant support at Kingston Park. We had 4,000 against York and 2,000 against Middlesbrough," she told NUFC TV.

"I think that was a bigger crowd than Arsenal Women had at home in the Women's Super League. So we're just super impressed with the support we've had and we just want to keep that going on."

Newcastle Women are on the hunt for promotion this term after narrowly losing out to Liverpool Feds last season. Langley's side sit second behind Durham Cestria but are in fine form of late, last tasting a league defeat in October.

"This is an exciting moment for the team to play at St. James' Park once again in front of incredible support," Langley added. "The last two times at the stadium we have received fantastic support, which has made a huge difference to the team as we continue to push forward.

"Once again this is a great opportunity to showcase women's football in the North East and we hope to continue inspiring a new generation of girls and women to play and enjoy the game. Walking out at St. James' Park is a special moment for everybody at Newcastle United Women and this will once again be an occasion to savour."
