Newcastle Winter Wonderland opening day cancelled due to rain

Newcastle Racecourse's Winter Wonderland's opening night is cancelled due to the weather.

The event in Gosforth Park was set to launch for the Christmas season on Thursday November 17. But with a Met Office rain warning in place, the organisers have taken the decision to keep Newcastle Winter Wonderland closed today.

As it stands, Winter Wonderland at Newcastle Racecourse will open on Friday November 18, but that could change if the rain continues.

Anybody with tickets for Thursdays can use them to enter on another day, the organisers wrote on the event's Facebook page.

Winter Wonderland posted: "Due to the weather warning that has been issued to day we have taken the decision to not open Winter wonderland this evening, for safety reasons .

"We will be opening as normal tomorrow with walk-ins available all week."

The organisers added that they are monitoring weather warnings. Check with t hem on Facebook if you are planning to attend this week.

Those with ice skating bookings for Thursday will be refunded, the organisers added.

The Met Office's rain warning has been extended through until 7am on Friday.
