Brentford head up to St. James’ Park to take on Newcastle in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals on Wednesday, and we’ve got the latest team news and predicted lineups, as well as a score prediction alongside our preview.
Newcastle vs Brentford Preview
Having met in the Premier League less than two weeks back, Newcastle and Brentford go head-to-head once again on Wednesday night, as they battle it out in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup.
The outcome of their last meeting was a 4-2 victory for the Bees at the Gtech Community Stadium, however with this clash being played at St. James’ Park, the home of the Magpies, it promises to be an entirely different encounter.
Eddie Howe’s side bounced back in style after the loss in West London, claiming a mighty 4-0 win over Leicester at home, courtesy of a Josh Murphy brace and goals from Alexander Isak and Bruno Guimaraes.
In terms of the cup, Newcastle have beaten Nottingham Forest, Wimbledon and Chelsea on their way to the final eight, impressively beating the latter 2-0 in the last round.

Brentford, meanwhile, booked their spot in the quarter-finals with a penalty shootout victory over Sheffield Wednesday last time out, which followed wins over Colchester United and Leyton Orient in the rounds prior.
They come into this one off the back of a 2-1 defeat away at Chelsea on Sunday evening, in which Cameroonian forward Bryan Mbeumo netted his 10th Premier League goal of the campaign.
Despite their recent loss to the Bees, Newcastle boast a strong record in this fixture historically, going unbeaten in six of their last seven meetings. Their last, and only, meeting in the League Cup quarter-finals ended in favour of Brentford though, with the West Londoners claiming a narrow 1-0 win in the 2020/21 edition of the competition.
Newcastle Team News
The hosts remain without Callum Wilson (thigh), Jamaal Lascelles (knee), Nick Pope (knee), Emil Krafth (shoulder) and Sven Botman (fitness) through injury.
Botman made his return for Newcastle’s Under-21 side on Monday night after his long layoff with a knee issue, but manager Howe has confirmed that he won’t be back with the first team until the end of December or the start of January.
Brentford Team News
As for the visitors, they are without Josh Dasilva (knee), Mathias Jensen (hamstring), Aaron Hickey (hamstring), Rico Lewis (knee) and Gustavo Nunes (back) due to their respective injury concerns.
In more positive news, Kristoffer Ajer made his return to the field of play against Chelsea at the weekend after a spell out with a foot injury, so the Dane is an option to start at the back on Wednesday night.

Newcastle vs Brentford Prediction
Despite Brentford prevailing when the pair last faced off, Newcastle are heavily favoured by the UK’s best football betting sites to advance to the semi-finals of this year’s Carabao Cup.
We at SportsCasting agree with the bookmakers’ assessment, as we are also backing the Magpies to come out on top, mainly due to the Bees’ woeful away form thus far this season.
Mbeumo and co. have failed to win a single game on the road this term, losing seven and drawing one. Newcastle, meanwhile, are unbeaten in four of their last five home games, beating the likes of Chelsea and Arsenal and drawing with Premier League leaders Liverpool.
Prediction: Newcastle 2-1 Brentford
