Newcastle United youngster Dylan Stephenson joins Scottish side Hamilton Academical on loan

Newcastle United have confirmed that Dylan Stephenson has joined Scottish Championship side Hamilton Academical on loan until the end of the season.

As first reported by ChronicleLive earlier this month, Newcastle are keen for their young forward to get some first-team experience with Hamilton in what will be his first spell away from the club. Stephenson had caught Eddie Howe's eye with a goal against Al-Hilal during the club's training camp in Saudi Arabia, but now the Magpies are eager for him to continue his development north of the border.

Stephenson will not be the only Newcastle face at Hamilton, with fellow 20-year-old Lucas De Bolle also on loan at the club. The young midfielder struggled with injury initially but has since played a full 90 minutes in the Scottish side's last four league matches.

Blyth-born Stephenson has featured 18 times for Newcastle's Under 21s, scoring on five occasions this term. The striker made his senior debut for the club against Serie A side Atalanta in pre-season.

It may not be long until Accies fans get to watch their new temporary signing in action, with Stephenson expected to be part of the travelling squad to take on Partick Thistle on Saturday afternoon. A fixture that many Newcastle supporters will no doubt have their eye on to as they hope their talented youngster has a successful spell away from the club.
