Newcastle United's home clash with Bournemouth could be played next weekend as the date for Queen Elizabeth II's funeral has been confirmed as a bank holiday for the country. All football matches across the Premier League and EFL between September 9-11 were cancelled after The Queen passed away aged 96 on Thursday.
Despite some reports indicating next weekend’s action could also be in doubt, Premier League action could get back underway from Friday with The Queen's funeral confirmed as taking place on Monday, September 19.
The funeral, which could have been held over the weekend, would have clashed with Newcastle's match with the Cherries. With the dates of the two events not set to clash, there is more chance that the games will be played over the weekend.

This is especially important in football terms given the already packed schedule ahead of the winter World Cup in Qatar. The Department of Culture, Media and Sport confirmed to our sister site football.london that their guidance given before the Premier League's decision to postpone games would not change.
"Our guidance will stay the same. There's no obligation to cancel as far as far as the government is concerned. But it's ultimately up to the Premier League and EFL to make those decisions."
The Met Police also told football.london that: "Whether matches go ahead is a matter for the football authorities. If fixtures do take place, the Met will work with the relevant partners and ensure that appropriate policing plans are in place."
