Newcastle United transfer rumours: Magpies dealt Todd Cantwell blow after January 'pursuit'

A look at the latest Newcastle United transfer rumours on Sunday, 24 April.

Norwich City set to scupper any Newcastle approach for Todd Cantwell

Norwich City have taken up the option to extend Todd Cantwell's contract beyond the end of the season. Newcastle were linked with the midfielder in January before he joined Scott Parker's Bournemouth on loan.

Cantwell has made 11 appearances for the Cherries as they look to gain promotion back to the Premier League. Bournemouth also have the option to make the move a permanent one, should they please.

Cantwell burst onto the scene after impressing in the Premier League with Norwich during the 19/20 season, scoring six times in 37 league games. However, the midfielder has struggled to make the same impact and has not scored in 19 appearances.

Bruno Guimaraes 'going nowhere' despite Real Madrid rumours

Former Leeds United striker Noel Whelan claims big teams may well be sniffing round Bruno Guimaraes after a 'fantastic' start to life at St. James' Park. Reports earlier this week surfaced claiming Real Madrid were keeping an eye on the Brazilian, but the former Whites striker claims he's going nowhere.

Whelan told Football Insider: "Yeah, but he’s going nowhere. He’s got a four-year contract and he looks like he’s really enjoying his time. He’s made a massive difference for Newcastle since he got into that first team after sitting on the bench.

“Bruno will have been looking from a distance and figuring out the team. Getting to know his new teammates, manager, club and environment.

“There’s absolutely no doubt what a signing he’s been. He’s been a fantastic signing for Newcastle. I think he’s one of these players for the future.

“They will not be letting him go. They will not be accepting the money. You could offer £100million now and they will say no because it’s not in their plans to be selling these players.

They’re trying to build the squad to compete. It wouldn’t make any sense.”
