Newcastle United transfer rumours: Christian Eriksen linked, Lazio stopper 'torn' over move

Your Newcastle United transfer round-up for Thursday, April 14.

Eriksen 'interest'

Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle are reportedly ready to pounce for Brentford star Christian Eriksen once his short-term contract expires. A six-month deal at the Bees was penned in January and the 30-year-old has repaid their faith with a string of stellar performances.

Questions were raised over the Dane’s fitness following a cardiac arrest but he is answering them all with aplomb - placing bigger clubs on high alert. Eriksen bagged in Brentford’s recent 4-1 win at Chelsea and scored two on international duty to replicate his form from yesteryear.

Now, 90min reports that up to six Premier League clubs - including Newcastle - are ready to challenge Brentford for his signature.

Strakosha ‘torn’ on NUFC move

Lazio goalkeeper Thomas Strakosha is reportedly ‘torn’ over a move to Newcastle. Rome-based outlet Citta Celeste claims the Greek shot-stopper - whose contract runs out to the end of the season - is undecided whether to stay in Italy or chance his arm in the Premier League.

The Magpies have been linked with moves for a new goalkeeper and were reportedly interested in signing Manchester United’s Dean Henderson in January. Martin Dubravka is currently first choice and any decision to prioritise a new goalkeeper is likely to polarise supporters. The report claims Lazio boss Maurizio Sarri is keen on a reunion with Chelsea flop Kepa amid uncertainty over Strakosha’s future.

Toon ‘scouted’ Lisbon defender

Newcastle sent scouts to watch Sporting Lisbon defender Goncalo Inacio last week according to A Bola. The Portuguese giants defeated relegation-battling Tondela 3-1 and Inacio - who can play at centre-back or left-back - scored a 25-yard screamer.

Defence is an area Eddie Howe will be looking to bolster after failed attempts for Sven Botman and Diego Carlos in January. Portugal U21 defender Inacio would provide a long-term solution and is a goal threat, too, having bagged four times in the Primeira Liga this season.
