West Brom join Anderson race
West Bromwich Albion have joined a host of clubs looking to sign Newcastle United attacking midfielder Elliot Anderson on loan. Around 12 clubs are interested in the 19-year-old and the Edinburgh Evening News claim the Baggies have now entered the race.
Championship sides Bristol City, Luton Town, Millwall and Huddersfield Town are among the interested parties, along with League One sides Sheffield Wednesday and Bristol Rovers. The Scottish U21 international is also attracting attention from the Scottish Premier League with Hearts and Hibernian also battling for his signature.
Nevertheless, Newcastle remain undecided on his future, especially after a string of impressive performances during pre-season. Anderson enjoyed a successful loan spell in his first season in senior football. He scored eight goals and provided five assists in 21 appearances to help propel Bristol Rovers to automatic promotion from League Two.
Newcastle join race for Strasbourg forward
Newcastle United have joined Leicester City and Crystal Palace in the race to sign Strasbourg forward Ludovic Ajorque, according to Football Insider.
The report adds that Strasbourg president Marc Keller has given permission to Ajorque’s agent Mark McKay to find buyers for the French forward, who has two years left on his contract.
Ajorque has experienced a remarkable journey from the lower reaches of French football to Ligue 1. He was unable to make the grade at Angers and had loan spells in the third-tier with Poire-sur-Vie and Lucon.
Nonetheless, the 6ft 6in striker left Angers for Ligue 2 side Clermont in 2016 and hit 14 goals during the 2017/18 to earn a move to the top-flight with Strasbourg. The 28-year-old has netted double figures across all competitions in each of his four campaigns for Strasbourg.
He scored 16 goals during the 2020/21 season in Ligue 1 – finishing behind only Kylian Mbappe, Wissam Ben Yedder and Memphis Depay in the race for the golden boot. Ajorque scored 12 times in 36 games last season and has bagged 49 goals in 136 appearances across all competitions in total for Le Racing.
