Newcastle United transfer rumours as Memphis Depay links resurface

Here are your Newcastle United transfer rumours for Saturday 8 October.

Newcastle United links to Barcelona forward Memphis Depay resurface

Reports linking Newcastle United to Barcelona forward Memphis Depay have re-emerged following a host of rumours last summer.

Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo claim the Magpies are still strongly interested in the Dutch striker who looks to be on the peripheral of Barcelona's stacked squad.

This summer saw the Catalan giants add Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha to their squad which already contained Ousmane Dembele, Ansu Fati, Ferran Torres and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

While Aubameyang's departure to Chelsea meant reduced competition for Depay, the 28-year-old has made just three appearances so far this season, meaning he could be heading for the exit door in January.

During the summer, it was claimed Depay only wanted to move to a team with Champions League football, which Newcastle can not offer the Dutchman.

Magpies reportedly target South America in search of talent

Newcastle United are said to be targeting the South American market in their search to add talented prospects to their ranks.

The i reports Newcastle are keen to explore South America and have already held talks with Vasco de Gama over 18-year-old midfielder Andrey Santos.

The Magpies have already landed wonderkid Garang Kuol in recent weeks and have been much more proactive since last year's takeover when it comes to improving their youth team.

And exploring South America in an effort to unearth potential gems could prove to been an incredibly fruitful move for Newcastle.
