Aston Villa loanee Matt Targett hints at making a permanent switch to Tyneside
Newcastle January transfer window saw them bring in a host of players with Premier League experience in an effort to help them beat the drop.
While it looked improbable at some point, Eddie Howe's side managed to pull off the impossible, securing safety with ease in comparison to the current relegation strugglers. One of the signings who made a strong impact on Tyneside was Matt Targett who joined Newcastle from Aston Villa in January on loan.
The left-back has been nothing but solid during his time at St James' Park, slotting in seamlessly alongside Dan Burn.
In his post match chat with NUFC TV, Targett was asked what the future may hold for him with the left-back replying: "“I think everyone knows what I want, but it’s up to the club.

“It’s a massive project, an exciting project, and I’m sure everyone wants to be a part of it.
“I’ve loved every single minute of my time here. It’s been an incredible place to play my football. I’ve loved every second of it.”
Newcastle are understood to have an option to buy Targett from Villa for a fee reported to be around the £13m mark. It's a signing that makes complete sense given how well he performed during his stay on Tyneside.
Matt Ritchie reportedly heading for Tyneside exit
There can be no doubt that Matt Ritchie has been an excellent player for Newcastle United since his arrival in July 2016.
However, the Athletic's George Caulkin expects Ritchie to be heading for the exit door at St James' Park this summer despite the utility man having a year left on his contract.
"He has another year left on his contract, but I'd expect him to go," wrote Caulkin in response to a comment about Ritchie.
Since he signed for the Magpies, Ritchie has made 187 appearances. Operating on either wing or at left-wing back, Ritchie endeared himself to the Toon Army with his all action style of play.
He will most likely be moved on this summer after barely featuring in the second half of the 2021/22 campaign.
