A look at the latest Newcastle United transfer rumours on Wednesday, May 10.
Magpies tracking young French striker
Foot Mercato claim Newcastle United are interested in signing young Montpellier striker Elye Wahi. The 20-year-old has been one of the breakthrough stars in Ligue 1 this season, scoring all four goals in Montpellier's 5-4 defeat at Lyon.
The Magpies are said to face competition from Eintracht Frankfurt, AS Monaco, Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig and Premier League rivals Arsenal, who’ve been tracking the player over the last few months. The striker has 17 goals and five assists this season and the number of interested parties is only increasing.
The Ligue 1 side have a reported asking price of €40million.
Newcastle told to avoid Paulo Dybala swoop
Former Aston Villa striker Gabby Agbonlahor has told Newcastle United to avoid signing Paulo Dybala who wouldn't suit the Magpies' current play style. The Toon have been tentatively linked with the Argentinian since the takeover went through last season, but could sign for as little as £10.5million due to a clause in his contract this summer.
Agbonlahor told Football Insider: “He’s a very good player. But when you look at the pace of the Premier League – does he have that hunger?
“Newcastle play with high energy, high pressing – and he’s not that kind of player. I’d be very careful with who I decide to sign if I’m Newcastle.
“They’ve been outstanding this season and they’re looking like they’ll get Champions League, but you still want hungry players. I wouldn’t get Dybala.
"They need a good number 10, but when you’ve got the money they have and you’re playing Champions League football – they’ve got the world to choose from. I wouldn’t go for someone who Juventus got rid of, and who doesn’t play all the time at Roma.
“Newcastle can do better.”
