Newcastle 'eye cut-price' Luke Shaw approach
Football Insider claims Newcastle United will make a cut-price move to sign England left-back Luke Shaw. The Manchester United defender is out of contract this summer and has struggled to cement his place in the Red Devils starting XI.
Manchester United do have the option to extend his deal for a further 12 months, but Shaw has been frozen out of the squad and finds himself on the fringes. The left-back was one of the standout performers for his country as England reached the Euro2020 final, scoring against Italy in the Wembley showpiece.
However, injuries have plagued his Manchester United career. Newcastle are reportedly set to monitor his situation at Old Trafford this summer.
Brendan Rodgers accepts James Maddison interest as Leicester prepare for Newcastle United bid
Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers is braced for another approach for James Maddison in January. Newcastle United failed with two attempts to sign the highly-rated 25-year-old in the summer.
The second bid - understood to be slightly north of £40million - was laughed off by Rodgers, with the Foxes boss suggesting the fee offered would not buy “three quarters” of Maddison's left leg. Despite constant speculation, the midfielder has continued to excel in a dysfunctional Leicester side this season.
Five goals and two assists in 2022-23 has triggered debate nationwide about whether Gareth Southgate should take him to the World Cup next month. A match-winning performance against Nottingham Forest on Monday saw Maddison - who has 18 months left on his current deal - score two superb goals to lift Leicester from the foot of the table.
