Alex McLeish claims Newcastle United may struggle to keep their best players
Former Scotland manager Alex McLeish believes the better Newcastle United do, the more likely they could be to lose their best players to "huge, world-renowned clubs."
The Magpies entered into a new financial era this time last year when they were taken over by PIF and have already strengthened their squad with a number of pricey purchases.

One of those players is Brazilian ace Bruno Guimaraes, who in just a matter of months, has become a cult hero on Tyneside. But while spirits are high at St James' Park right now, McLeish believes some of the Magpies may begin to have their heads turned by the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona if they continue to impress for Newcastle.
“They [Newcastle] are, in essence, the richest club in the world when you look at the people who are behind them,” McLeish told Football Insider.
"Obviously, there will be temptations when world-renowned clubs come in for your best players, certainly clubs who are more world-renowned than Newcastle are. Those clubs will be looking to prey on Newcastle. It’s one of the conundrums, the better Newcastle do, the more their players will be scouted by these huge, world-renowned clubs.
"The player might fit the bill for Real Madrid or Barcelona and they may believe they can get the player if they are at Newcastle and they don’t play Champions League football. At the same time as that, I’ve heard Bruno say he loves the place, he loves the people and that’s what you want to hear. You hope he can stick to that for the foreseeable future."
Newcastle United interested Celtic's Matt O'Riley
Newcastle United are reportedly monitoring Celtic midfielder Matt O'Riley.
The Sun's Alan Nixon reports Newcastle's head of recruitment Steve Nickson was recently at Celtic's Champions League game with RB Leipzig, specifically to watch O'Riley, who has also drawn interest from Crystal Palace.
The Danish midfielder has been one of Celtic's standout players since his move from MK Dons this summer.
