A round-up of the latest the latest Newcastle United transfer rumours on Sunday, July 31.
Newcastle approach Burnley for Maxwel Cornet
The Daily Mail claims Newcastle United have opened talks with Burnley for Ivory Coast winger Maxwel Cornet. The report claims Eddie Howe's side would prefer not to pay the entirety of Cornet's £17.5million release clause in one payment.
It claims that Vincent Kompany's side would accept closer to £25m over a longer period. It comes after the Magpies saw a £35million bid rejected for Leicester City playmaker James Maddison, with Newcastle exploring other options.
Eddie Howe's side have been linked with the likes of Jack Harrison, Moussa Diaby and Harvey Barnes so far this window and the Magpies are continuing their search. The report also claims Newcastle are hampered by financial restrictions and sources claim a deal is hanging in the balance.
Newcastle United chiefs working overtime on transfers as Leicester demand £60m for James Maddison
Newcastle United have maintained a dignified silence after news from the East Midlands that the Magpies placed a £40million bid for England international James Maddison. The Magpies did not comment on talk of a bid on Saturday morning, nor did they confirm or deny the offer for Maddison.
Less than 24 hours after Eddie Howe insisted he would not be drawn into discussing individual names, a report from the Daily Telegraph says that Newcastle's offer was rejected. And follow up reaction has now unfolded suggesting that only a bid of £60million would prise him away from the King Power Stadium.
Maddison currently has two years left on his current deal and Leicester are in a strong position to demand what they want. But at £60million Maddison's price tag would be significantly bigger than the fees Man City picked up for Gabriel Jesus to Arsenal and Raheem Sterling to Chelsea in what is turning into a crazy market.
