Newcastle United transfer rumours: Alphonse Areola, Charlie McArthur and James Ward-Prowse latest

Your Newcastle United transfer round-up for Friday, June 17.

Newcastle could 'swoop in' for Areola

Newcastle United are said to be keeping close tabs on current West Ham goalkeeper Alphonse Areola should the Hammers fail to get a deal over the line.

The 29-year-old joined David Moyes' side on a season-long-loan at the beginning of the season with an option to buy.

But with the Magpies also in the market for a new goalkeeper this summer, reports have suggested how United could 'swoop in' later this summer.

Dean Henderson and Nick Pope have both been touted as other options, with Eddie Howe keen to provide competition for Martin Dubravka.

McArthur fee and terms agreed

Teenage defender Charlie McArthur is edging closer and closer to agreeing a deal that would bring the Scotland U17 international to the club this summer.

Reported by The Athletic to be joining the Magpies for a fee of around £350,000, the Kilmarnock man can sign a maximum three-year contract as an under-18.

Following Matt Targett through the doors, it is unknown at present whether he will remain with the squad for the 22/23 campaign.

Ward-Prowse interest

With Manchester United identifying James Ward Prowse as a perfect piece to their missing midfield puzzle, Newcastle United still remain firmly interested in the player too.

The 27-year-old still had four years left on his deal at St Mary's with West Ham also said to be keeping close tabs on his situation at present.

A terrific dead-ball specialist, the Englishman has shone year after year on the south coast with the Sun reporting how Erik Ten Hag's side are monitoring his situation closely ahead of a potential £75million swoop.
