Newcastle United transfer news: Duvan Zapata interest, Isco 'potential' and Vincent Kompany on Maxwel Cornet

Your Newcastle United transfer round-up for Saturday, July 16.

‘Call time’ on Diaby and Isak

The Northern Echo claim Newcastle will end their pursuit of Moussa Diaby and Alexander Isak. Recent reports have linked United with moves for both players but mooted £50million price tags have cooled the Magpies’ interest.

A move for Atalanta striker Duvan Zapata is listed as a potential backup option but, at 31, the Serie A outfit’s £35million asking price also appears steep. Toon chiefs are refusing to be taken advantage of in the transfer market, similar to how the club operated in January.

Zapata was previously reported as being on Newcastle’s radar but Atalanta were demanding an £8million loan fee.

Kompany coy on Cornet

Vincent Kompany confessed his star asset Maxwel Cornet “has offers” amid interest from Newcastle. The Ivorian is understood to have a £17.5million release clause in his contract following the Clarets’ relegation to the Championship.

"I don't know close it is,” Kompany said after Burnley’s 3-1 win against Shrewsbury Town. “It is no secret there are a couple of clubs in for him and a couple of clubs have made good offers.

"We have to prepare probably for a period after him and that is what we are doing. I am not saying Maxwel has gone, he has offers."

Isco interest?

Spanish outlet AS have named Newcastle as a potential suitor for another Real Madrid star. Last week, the site suggested Marco Asensio was a Magpies target for around £20million - before U-turning on their stance 48 hours later.

Now, the same publication insists Newcastle are weighing up an offer for free agent Isco. The 30-year-old is without a club after being released by Los Blancos at the end of last season.

Just 14 league appearances made Isco surplus to requirements at the Bernabeu and, despite his international pedigree, is yet to find a new club. The Spaniard has played 38 times for his country, scoring 12 goals.
