Carrasco talk
Spanish outlet Fichajes has again named Newcastle as a possible destination for Yannick Carrasco. Atletico Madrid must recoup funds after their early Champions League exit left a void in the club’s finances.
Signing Carrasco - a seasoned Belgium international - could boost the Magpies’ hopes of cementing a top-four finish in the New Year. With 18 months left on his deal, Toon chiefs will refuse to pay the 29-year-old’s €60million release clause.

Carrasco has undoubted talent but Eddie Howe has been keen to lower the age of Newcastle’s squad with signings like Sven Botman and Alexander Isak. Would signing a player who turns 30 next year be astute planning for the future?
Prem trio in Jose chase
El Futbolero claim Newcastle, Leeds United and Brighton are targeting Ecuador international Jose Cifuentes. The 23-year-old will represent his country at this month’s World Cup and plays for Los Angeles FC in the MLS.
A holding midfielder, Cifuentes’ contract runs out at the end of 2023, meaning top-flight clubs are wary of a potential bargain on the horizon. Newcastle have exploited the US market in the past with a move for in-form Miguel Almiron almost four years ago.
The report suggests Brighton are monitoring the player as a potential replacement for Moises Caicedo, who is attracting interest from European clubs. An offer of around £5million could tempt the MLS side to sell their asset in January.
Hammers youngster tipped for exit
Harrison Ashby is expected to leave West Ham United, according to a former club employee. A source has told West Ham Way that the youngster - linked with a deadline-day move to Newcastle in the summer - will leave the London Stadium in January.
Ashby is in the final year of his contract and has the same agent as Howe. The 20-year-old has made seven cameo appearances for the Hammers and fits the bill for Dan Ashworth's blueprint of bolstering the academy.
