Newcastle United team news: Eddie Howe makes one notable change and surprise name on bench

Eddie Howe made just one change to his team to face Manchester United at Old Trafford today.

The Magpies opening line-up did not feature Joe Willock who is understood to have suffered an illness in the build-up to the big clash, and the former Arsenal man has been replaced by Joelinton.

Otherwise, Howe named Nick Pope in goal, Kieran Trippier at right-back with Sven Botman and Fabian Schar in the heart of his defence and Dan Burn continuing at left-back.

Howe brought back Jonjo Shelvey early after a hamstring injury he suffered away to Benfica in pre-season.

There was no place for Allan Saint-Maximin amid talk that he had suffered a fresh injury setback.

Subs: Karius, Lascelles, Shelvey, Lewis, Targett, Wood, Fraser, Willock, Anderson.
