Newcastle United were dealt a major blow when Aleksander Isak's work permit did not arrive in time for today's clash at Wolves.
The Magpies got the paperwork to the Premier League before the 12pm deadline on Friday but the chances of him playing were always down to whether he received international clearance to play.
Instead Eddie Howe went with Chris Wood in attack in the absence of Callum Wilson. Nick Pope was in goal with Kieran Trippier leading the team alongside Fabian Schar, Sven Botman and Dan Burn.
Burn played ahead of Matt Targett who was not deemed up to speed fitness wise after an injury. Sean Longstaff, Joe Willock and Joelinton made up the midfield while Miguel Almiron, Allan Saint-Maximin and Chris Wood.
There was still no place for Jamaal Lascelles with the club captain starting on the bench while Ryan Fraser returned from a back spasm.
UNITED: Pope, Trippier, Schar, Botman, Burn, Longstaff, Willock, Joelinton, Almiron, Saint-Maximin, Wood.
Subs: Darlow, Dummett, Lascelles, Ritchie, Targett, Manquillo, Fraser, Murphy, Anderson.
