Newcastle United supporters laud 'ridiculous' Bruno Guimaraes Brazil performance

Newcastle United supporters were left purring by a fantastic Bruno Guimaraes performance in Brazil’s emphatic 4-0 win against Bolivia. He netted his first international goal and put on an assist for his former Lyon teammate, and potential Magpies target, Lucas Paqueta.

Plenty of Toon Army members stayed up into the early hours of Wednesday morning to watch the five-time World Cup winners ensure they would finish top of the CONMEBOL qualifying table. It was their 14th win in 17 matches on their way to the finals in Qatar at the end of the year in a qualifying campaign that they are yet to be beaten in with one game left.

Guimaraes has been a big hit since arriving on Tyneside in the January transfer window and United fans are only too happy to see him recreating his strong club form on the international stage. His appearance against Bolivia was just his sixth for Brazil with four of those coming from the bench.

He has clearly impressed the manager, Tite, as much as he has impressed Eddie Howe as well as those who have seen him play in the black and white shirt and he will now be targeting a World Cup starting berth. His assist for Paqueta that opened the scoring highlighted exactly what Guimaraes is so good at after he eased past a couple of opponents in midfield before threading a perfect pass through the defender’s legs and into the path of his former club teammate.

If the assist was impressive then his first Brazil goal in the second half was even better as he hammered a volley beyond the Bolivian goalkeeper and into the top corner after being teed up by Paqueta to make it 3-0.

The Newcastle fans that stayed up into the small hours were all too happy to see the Magpies newbie starring for his country and they took to social media to express their feelings towards the 24-year-old. Here is what a few of them had to say on Twitter.
