Newcastle United supporters were pleased to see their side record a solid pre-season win against Atalanta. A first-half Chris Wood penalty ensured the Magpies claimed a routine victory against the Serie A outfit.
Football returned to St James' Park after 68 days - the game of a double-header on home soil, with Newcastle's pre-season campaign concluding against Athletic Bilbao tomorrow. Over 40,000 supporters were in attendance as United ground out a result over the side that finished eighth in Italy last season.
Fans were pleased to see their team win as preparations for the Premier League opener next weekend reach the final stretch. This was the response on social media post-match, with Elliot Anderson earning the plaudits.

@LordLinton: Class performance, fitness levels on another level from last season. Bet none of them had single kebab over the summer
@AngelNUFC: Anderson was good again, we need to keep him. He will score goals and win us more penalties as he's so tricky with the ball.
@OrgaPhysio: I was on the fence before but Miggy and Anderson stay for me. Proved themselves against CL clubs. Miggy also showing can play 8/CAM and out wide. 2-3 more signings and top 10 or even more
@thomas_cloke: Defended and played well tonight I think against a dangerous and very good team, Good win and good run out for the boys let’s put up another good performance tmoz, well played Boys
@RussellSteedman: Schar has to pair with Botman. Target was class. Trippier had much better 2nd half. Anderson looked threatening. S Longstaff had a great game. Fraser was poor. Almiron and Murphy are frustrating to watch as they show decent things. Wood had some good touches but no goal threat.
@NUFC_JHJ: Defence looked good, Elliott Anderson looked fantastic, good defensive cover from Longstaff and attacking play from Targett. Miggy also looking good but so much better when he's with capable attackers.
