Newcastle United supporters deliver mixed reaction to Timo Werner transfer links

Newcastle United supporters are split on whether the club should sign Chelsea striker Timo Werner this summer. The German international was one of European football’s hottest properties at RB Leipzig - bagging 94 goals in four seasons - but has flopped since a big-money move to Stamford Bridge in 2020.

Werner has struggled to replicate his Bundesliga form in the Premier League and manager Thomas Tuchel could offload his compatriot to free up coffers for a more prolific goalscorer. Reports in Germany claim Chelsea have slapped a £33million price tag on the 26-year-old amid interest from the mega-rich Magpies.

However, fans are divided over a potential move for the forward. Some supporters have welcomed the interest, believing Eddie Howe can reignite his career on Tyneside.

@nufc_seb: Curious to hear the reasons for those saying "no". Is it purely based on his time at Chelsea? His scoring record in Germany was excellent and his recent form for Country has been too. Form is temporary, class is permanent.

@SierraPapaG: These are difficult questions. On form I'd say no but on ability and potential I'd say yes. I firmly believe Howe can get the best out of most players so those saying no to a high calibre player on form alone I think is a bit silly.

@NUFC_Sam02: Be a fool not to. £33m wouldn’t be the worst price either in today’s market.

@HoltzvonHoltzer: In a heartbeat. At some point it'll just click for him, his movement etc is outstanding just doesn't really suit how Tuchel sets up.

@Michael97706463: I think he needs to be loved by a manager and needs to attack at speed. He gets that at NUFC. There’s no doubt that the boy can do it. If Eddie can turn Joelinton into a star, he can revive Werner.

Others think Werner’s Chelsea form makes him a bullet Newcastle should dodge. Since arriving in West London, the German has only scored seven Premier League goals in 49 appearances - including just one in the top flight this season.

@sa80teur: No. £33m might not be tons of money but I don’t think he is either the right player or character.

@Liamy1983: Hmmmmm. Football brain isn't there with him I think. But if Eddie wants him in I'll trust him.

@katetlay: No. Finishing issue.

@RobertsonD1987: He's offside far too often, and he's wasteful in front of goal, that's what I've seen of him at Chelsea. I cannot pass judgement on his time in Germany as I don't watch much German ball.
