Newcastle United supporters delivered mixed responses after their pre-season defeat to Bundesliga side Mainz 05. Eddie Howe named a strong side to take on the German side but they were unable to force an opening despite controlling much of the game.
The Bundesliga side took the lead just before the hour mark with a goal from Delano Burgzorg. A raft of changes after the goal saw Newcastle assert their authority but they were unable to find an equaliser.
Fans have since taken to social media with mixed reaction after the game. A number of fans were left disappointed by the performance and the lack of creativity, while others acknowledged it was just a pre-season fixture.
