Newcastle United's walking wounded leave Elliot Anderson and Lewis Miley on brink of call-ups

Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe will hold a roll call in training today to see who will be available to prepare for the Monday night encounter with Leicester City.

On a bruising night, Joelinton, Bruno Guimaraes and most worryingly Joe Willock hobbled out of St James' Park. Willock has suffered a hamstring problem but required crutches as he was helped home.

The knocks could leave Howe to patch up his team for the clash with the Foxes with Elliot Anderson certain to come into contention and 17-year-old Lewis Miley, who was on the bench against Brighton, in with a shout of a debut of some sort.

Joelinton hobbled out after a knock while Willock's hamstring injury was confirmed by Howe. Bruno has been carrying an ankle injury for some time but has played on through the pain barrier.

Howe said afterwards: "The two Joes are a bit of a doubt for us. Joelinton took a knock, I think, and Willock looks like he’s got a hamstring injury."

With Matt RItchie, Jamaal Lascelles and Emil Krafth already out, Newcastle are down to the bare bones.

Callum Wilson edges closer to best tally since Alan Shearer

Wilson notched his 18th of the season to give him a fighting chance of catching up with a Big Al record. Shearer grabbed 22 goals in 2003/04 and nobody has got near that since.

Wilson has two matches left to push closer but could certainly be the highest scorer for almost two decades with 18. Howe said afterwards: "He's been incredible and I feel that was his performance was right up there with one of the best I've seen him play purely from a tactical perspective."

Dan Burn nails it with talk of whether Newcastle deserve Champions League

United have now occupied a Champions League place for 23 of the 36 Premier League match days. With Liverpool not even entering the top four all season it would be cruel if Newcastle didn't make it now.

Afterwards, Burn, one of the heroes of the night, summed it up: "We are not in a false position. "We have been so consistent this season and I just hope we can get the job done."
