Diego Carlos has indicated he will stay at Sevilla - despite Newcastle United's continued interest.
The suggestions from the player's camp in the build-up to Sevilla's 1-1 draw at Valencia were that Carlos wanted to quit La Liga for a move to Newcastle.
However, he emerged after playing for Sevilla to say to Spain's popular Ultima Hora show: "I have a lot of time left here (in Seville)."
And after the game, the duration of the time frame seemed to be confirmed by Sevilla's assistant manager Pablo Sanz.
Sanz said: " I think Diego Carlos will be until the end of the season."
Sanz was in the hotseat last night at the Mestalla because Julen Lopetegui was missing with Covid, along with a clutch of the Sevilla squad.
Whether this is transfer brinksmanship by Carlos and Sevilla remains to be seen with one third of the window left.
However, when the bid stood at €36million yesterday, Sevilla were far from satisfied and the La Liga club were looking to get close to €50million according to sources in Spain.
Eddie Howe is now facing a race against time to get new players registered for the weekend game against Leeds United.
