Newcastle United revamp their scouting network as Dan Ashworth masterplan takes shape

Newcastle United are set to revamp their scouting operations at Academy level with a host of key appointments. United secured sporting director Dan Ashworth from Brighton & Hove Albion last summer but his long-term plan is now beginning to take shape.

Having appointed Man City's Paul Midgley as head of youth recruitment the club are now looking to flesh out the rest of their talent spotting unit across the country. The Magpies have struggled at Under-21 level this season and now have an eye on what happens in the long-term future.

In what is described as an "exciting time" for Newcastle they will look to appoint a new Head of emerging talent as the club look to improve recruitment at the Academy.

An advert for the role reads: "You will identify new potential target players, producing a specific football and business case dossier to show a robust and rigorous process has been followed when presenting the cases to the Head of Recruitment. This will be achieved by, amongst other things, having a data evidenced based proposal as to how players fit into the near or long-term future of the club."

Meanwhile, Newcastle are looking to ensure they get the pick of young players nationwide between 13 and 18 years old with a UK lead scout position created and a UK youth scout for the south of the country.

The Magpies are also looking to bring in a recruitment operations manager, the job advert reads: "You will liaise with scouts daily, cascading information from the Head of Youth recruitment, ensuring they are aligned to target players and focused on priorities. You will act as the initial point of contact for trialists, managing and coordinating their itineraries for football and non-football requirements.
