Newcastle United report: 'Offers coming in' for goalkeeper unwanted by Eddie Howe

Eddie Howe, manager of Newcastle United, shows dejection during the Premier League match between Newcastle United and Everton at St. James's Park in Newcastle, on February 28, 2026. .

Newcastle United still have an uncertain picture between the sticks, but could soon be waving goodbye to one of their lesser-favoured glovemen.

They spent last summer chasing James Trafford, before seeing him move to Manchester City, but could yet reignite their interest there.

The Magpies instead loaned Aaron Ramsdale, who became the fifth senior goalkeeper at the club, along with Nick Pope, John Ruddy, Mark Gillespie and Odysseas Vlachodimos.

It is the last on that list who’s perhaps the most interesting, given he was signed for £20m from Nottingham Forest and has made just one 45-minute-long appearance for the club.

Elliot Anderson headed the other way, in a deal that looked to be some PSR-motivated shuffling, but it’s unquestionable that Eddie Howe’s outfit drew the short straw in that deal.

Given Vlachodimos is clearly unfancied by Howe, he has spent this season on loan with Spanish side Sevilla, where he has become a mainstay between the sticks.

According to Orgullo Biri, Newcastle have offered to make that deal permanent for a fee of €10m, but the report reveals the La Liga outfit cannot afford it.

Now, Spanish newspaper Diario de Sevilla, report that Sevilla may face competition for his signature, with the Magpies reportedly fielding multiple offers for the goalkeeper.

It makes no mention of who those clubs are, but the notion that there is interest from multiple angles bodes well for getting the Greek shot-stopper off the books for Newcastle.

Speaking recently about his treatment by Newcastle, Vlachodimos said: “I certainly wasn’t happy because I wasn’t playing. They told me something else. I was angry, but I worked. Ultimately, I do it for myself, I don’t do it for them. Every footballer wants to play.”

In FourFourTwo’s opinion, Newcastle must find a way to sell Vlachodimos this summer.

He clearly has no future at St James’ Park and is unhappy with his current situation, so the fact that he’s under contract until 2028 means the situation needs resolving.

The Magpies will clearly not get a return on their investment, but with multiple clubs seemingly interested, they may be able to recoup something, with the added benefit of a reduced wage bill.

Vlachodimos is valued at €4m, according to Transfermarkt.
