Newcastle United legend Andy Cole opens up about racism and dad's life as miner told in Ashington exhibition

Former Newcastle United great Andy Cole was one of the Premier League's all-time greatest goalscorers, holding the joint record for the most goals scored in a 42-game season with Alan Shearer until only recently.

And with such a successful career under his belt you'd expect to be schooled in the art of goalscoring when spending an hour in his company. But in a recent interview with The Mirror, the 51-year-old delved into the life of his coal miner dad, whose story was recently shared in a Northumberland exhibition.

Cole is a direct descendant of the Windrush generation, with his dad Lincoln emigrating to the UK from Jamaica in 1957. He went on to work as a coal miner in Nottingham for 22 years, from 1965 to 1987.
