Newcastle United have learned who will the man in the middle will be for their historic semi-final against Southampton in the first leg of next week's League Cup clash.
Warwickshire's Stuart Attwell has been given the nod for the last four encounter against the Saints as Newcastle play in their first semi-final in this competition since 1976. Attwell was also in charge of the Premier League game between the two sides which United won 4-1 in Hampshire earlier this season.

That day he did not book a single Newcastle player with only Romeo Lavia going in the his note pad for a yellow card. The other semi-final first leg will be looked after by Geordie referee Michael Oliver as Man United take on Nottingham Forest.
And unlike the last round against Leicester City, and the FA Cup tie at Sheff Wed, VAR will be in full operation at both St Mary's and St James' Park. Darren Cann and James Mainwaring are the linesmen for the trip to Southampton while Andre Marriner is on VAR duty.
