Newcastle boss Eddie Howe has revealed Jonjo Shelvey is a doubt for Saturday's Premier League clash against Nottingham Forest.
The two sides will meet at St James' Park (3pm) for the season opener, following the Reds' return to the English top-flight. Shelvey meanwhile, could miss out after suffering a hamstring injury during the Magpies' Eusebio Cup defeat against Benfica last week. He was also absent in last Friday's win over Atalanta.
The Magpies boss, who confirmed the club were waiting for "some scans results and a couple of opinions" on his injury last week, offered an update this morning. He said: "Jonjo Shelvey is in London tonight for another assessment so we are unsure on him.
