Newcastle United identify alternative to Leeds United man amid contract talks reveal

Newcastle United are set to target a move for Brighton's Leandro Trossard ahead of Leeds United's Jack Harrison in January, according to TeamTalk. The Magpies saw a bid rejected for Harrison during the summer with manager Eddie Howe said to be a big admirer of the former Manchester City man.

Trossard's contract at Brighton is set to expire at the end of the season, though the Seagulls are expected to trigger a 12 month extension to prevent him leaving on a free. Newcastle sporting director Dan Ashworth is extremely keen on bringing the Belgian to St. James' Park, though, after he himself brought him to Brighton in 2019.

Their pursuit of Trossard could see Newcastle cool interest in Leeds winger Harrison, whose contract is also a current topic. Harrison's deal at Elland Road is set to expire in 2024 and talks between his agent and Victor Orta are set to begin in the coming weeks to try reach an agreement.

Harrison spoke to LeedsLive on the prospect of a new contract earlier this week at Leeds' training camp in Spain, and claimed it is a club he 'loves' being at. He said: “I enjoy being here at the club, I love being here, I've been here a long time now and I'm almost part of the furniture here now.

“It's a great place to be, I'm happy to be here and I think my agent is coming over in the next month to sort something out with Victor. So we'll see what happens.”
