Bruce reveals Toon warnings
Steve Bruce says he still wouldn't have swapped managing Newcastle for anything despite the abuse he suffered during his St. James' Park tenure.
"I turned it down," he told the Die for Three Points podcast. "Before Graeme Souness took it when Bobby Robson got the sack and stayed loyal to Birmingham. I always maybe regretted that.
"So, to get the opportunity to say I've done it for two-and-a-half years, it wasn't easy and during the pandemic was difficult.

I did have people like Graeme Souness and Kenny Dalglish, people like that ringing me to say 'Do you know what you're doing, are you ready for it?' I mean Graeme, for example, Souness said to me 'Steve, I've managed in Liverpool, I've managed in Glasgow, I've even managed in Turkey where it gets boisterous and a bit noisy, but there's nothing quite like what you're going to undertake.'

Karius contract update
Newcastle United are expected to announce a new contract extension for ex-Germany under-21 goalkeeper Loris Karius. The former Liverpool shot-stopper has been in training with the Magpies since the turn of the year despite his initial deal expiring at the end of 2022.
Sources in Germany say that Karius has agreed terms until the end of the season which leaves a question mark over Newcastle's goalkeeper department for part two of the season. With Nick Pope the undisputed number one, Karl Darlow could be moved on loan at the end of the month.

Toon youngster staying cool
Lewis Miley is determined to keep his feet on the ground and take his career "step by step" after scoring his first St James' Park goal. The wonderkid netted the first equaliser in the Magpies' narrow FA Youth Cup defeat to Arsenal on Tuesday night.
Miley was representing the Magpies under-18s in the FA Youth Cup, but has recently become a regular starter for the under-21s and has netted three goals in his last four appearances. However, the promising teenager is refusing to get carried away with his progress this term.
He told ChronicleLive: "I'm just focusing game by game really, taking it step by step to keep pushing myself. It was a great experience playing in front of fans. It was a disappointing result but we took lots of things from it. Scoring a goal as well was a great experience. It was a great feeling hearing the cheer of the fans and it's one I will always remember."

Moyes on Toon spending
West Ham boss David Moyes has highlighted the efficiency of the Magpies' transfer strategy since PIF's takeover in October 2021.
He told The Diary of a CEO podcast: "Newcastle United bought three or four English players last January. Probably not necessarily on the radar of the biggest clubs in the country, and they've turned round and they've had incredible momentum from probably January last year and are keeping that momentum going.
"Now they are adding in the odd bigger star or the bigger players as they go along but I thought their business at the start was very good."

Carrick 'loving life' on Tyneside
Graeme Carrick is "loving life" at Newcastle after returning to the club to manage the under-18s. The younger brother of former Manchester United and England midfielder Michael was in the St James' Park dugout on Tuesday night as the young Magpies fell to heartbreaking 3-2 defeat to Arsenal in the FA Youth Cup.
Carrick said: "I'm loving it, absolutely loving it. I worked at the FA for a long time and helped develop coaches, and to be working with the players directly is why I did it. It's such a special club, I'm from the area and I grew up as a fan. It's such a privilege to be able to do this job, I don't take it for granted.
"On nights like this, to see the development of the lads and the character we've shown and the way they've behaved and the quality of some of the football. We see that day to day."
