Toon claim comfortable win
Newcastle ran away as comfortable winners in their pre-season friendly against 1860 Munich. Second-half goals from Joe Willock, Sean Longstaff and Bruno Guimaraes secured a routine victory to get the Austrian tour off to a flyer.
Many Toon supporters made the 1,000-mile long trip to the Saalfeldenarena Burgerau to support Eddie Howe’s side - and they were not disappointed. An entertaining second half saw Newcastle dominate the German third-tier outfit and avoid a pre-season hiccup.
Next Monday’s clash against Bundesliga side Mainz promises to provide a far sterner test for the Magpies ahead of the 2022-23 campaign.

Newcastle make CEO appointment
A major development has taken place at St James’ Park as Newcastle have confirmed the arrival of Darren Eales as Chief Executive Officer. The position was vacant after Lee Charnley left the club last season and the process to find a replacement has been meticulous.
Eales joins the club from MLS outfit Atlanta United, where he worked since the club’s inception in 2014. A Newcastle statement read: “Over that time, he has built a franchise that has secured the highest average attendance in MLS, created the most valuable squad, generated the largest profits – and won multiple trophies, including the MLS Cup in 2018, the US Open Cup in 2019 and the Campeones Cup in 2019.
“The 49-year-old will work alongside the Magpies' sporting director, Dan Ashworth, for the second time in his career after the two worked closely at West Bromwich Albion between 2006 and 2010.”

Howe on Botman
Eddie Howe was impressed with Sven Botman’s performance during the Magpies' pre-season win. The Dutchman played his first game in black-and-white stripes, starring in the second half as Newcastle coasted to victory.
Botman was involved in the build-up to the second goal and demonstrated a wide array of passes throughout his 30-minute cameo. Howe said post-match: "I'm really pleased to get the deal done, we were chasing for a long time. His ability, I think you saw that today, his presence and size is there.
"His technical ability has been there since day one in pre-season and the ability to play short and long passes is there. He's very composed and he's settled in perfectly, he is very laid back and calm and has settled into the group.
"I have been pleased with his impact on the group in a short period of time. He can be very pleased with today."

‘First half was difficult’ - Howe
The Toon boss was not completely happy at the full-time whistle due to his side’s first-half performance. A drab opening period saw the scores remain level at the break.
It was not until Newcastle introduced their international quality in the second half that the game began to swing in their favour. Speaking post-match, Howe said: "The first half was difficult as they were clearly trying to slow the game down, which is their right. The referee didn't help us with that because we wanted the opposite.
"We wanted a quick game with a lot of running but it wasn't there in the first half - it was a dead game. We didn't really get what we wanted. I didn't think we helped ourselves with that I thought we were lethargic but certainly, we have worked the players hard.
"We have been tested in different ways. We knew they were coming into the game today fatigued and it showed early on."
