Newcastle United will face significant competition for VFL Wolfsburg star Felix Nmecha this summer as the Magpies hierarchy seek out viable midfield options. The Magpies' interest, first reported by the Telegraph this week, comes as Eddie Howe attempts to both bolster and improve his options in the middle of the park with the arrival of a new deep-lying midfielder or box-to-box outlet.
Newcastle have tracked Manchester City academy graduate Nmecha in recent months but are not the only club to have registered an interest. A number of Bundesliga big-hitters admire the 22-year-old, including Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig, Manchester United have held informal talks and there was significant interest in the player among French and Spanish sides upon his Premier League exit two years ago.
Meanwhile, Chronicle Live understands Wolfsburg are determined to try and keep Nmecha at the Volkswagen Arena with the player currently flourishing alongside his older brother Lukas, who also featured for Man City as a youngster. However, the German side missed out on European football due to a final day defeat which will hamper their chances of persuading the player to stay put.
