Nick Pope 10
A clean sheet and three shoot-out saves make him the easy winner of a dull tie.
Javier Manquillo 7
Did well before running out of steam in first start since April. Lively in the tackle and looked for the right passes going forward.
Jamaal Lascelles 9
Excelled at the back to preserve clean sheet with 111 touches and 103 passes overall. Didn't put a foot wrong. Headed clear time after time.
Dan Burn 7
Was at the heart of things as he looked to play out from the back. Also on hand to make six clearances.
Matt Targett 7
Made a decent fist of it without being close to his best.
Jonjo Shelvey 6
Put in a shift without any headline moments.
Sean Longstaff 6
Didn't make much impact. Perhaps one game too many after long run in Premier League.
Joelinton 7
Battled hard and kept his nerve from the spot.
Elliot Anderson 7
A determined and wholehearted display. No heroics offensively but a rich round of applause said it all as the crowd delivered their verdict.
Allan Saint-Maximin 6
Never really got going with fitness a factor.
Chris Wood 7
Fed off scraps with very little service. Battled hard and scored his penalty.
Subs
Kieran Trippier 7 (for Manquillo 65)
Made an instant improvement when he came on.
Bruno Guimaraes 7 (for Longstaff 65)
A decent cameo but will be relieved after penalty miss.
Sven Botman 6 (for Burn 65)
Another thanking his team-mates after a poor kick.
Miguel Almiron (for Anderson 77)
Joe Willock (for Shelvey 85)
*Subs must play 15 minutes to get a mark.
First half ratings
Nick Pope 8
Has been the busier of the two keepers. Key save denied Jean-Philippe Mateta.
Javier Manquillo 7
Has looked lively going forward. A couple of tackles.
Jamaal Lascelles 7
A couple of interceptions. Steady stuff.
Dan Burn 7
Has been at the heart of most things building from the back in more familiar centre-half role.
Matt Targett 6
Has seen plenty of the ball but not done too much with it.
Sean Longstaff 6
Not much impact so far.
Jonjo Shelvey 7
Has tried in vain to pick a pass. One audacious free-kick from way out flew wide.
Joelinton 6
Back in midfield but hasn't had any big moments.
Elliot Anderson 6
Trying to find a way into the game. Working hard but nothing has came off for him yet. Booked so needs to be careful now.
Allan Saint-Maximin 6
Has has had one or two glimpses but is nowhere near his dazzling best. No surprise after long lay off.
Chris Wood 6
Not a lot of action so far.
