Newcastle United face a home draw against Leicester City in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup after tonight's draw for the last eight. The tie at St James' Park will be played the week commencing January 9 and will be a sold out affair. The draw saw Newcastle avoid Manchester City and Manchester United but miss out on a quarter-final against League One minnows Charlton Athletic.
But must fans were delighted with the outcome of the quarter-final line-up. The two teams met in the second round of the competition back in August 2019 but United were beaten 4-2 on penalties after a 1-1 draw.
That night Kasper Schmeichel saved from Jonjo Shelvey and Isaac Hayden in the penalty shoot-out but with the Foxes not at their best this season and Newcastle unbeaten at home Eddie Howe will see this as a major opportunity. The Magpies have only won one of their 10 quarter-finals in club history and last crashed out at the last eight stage back in 2020 to then Championship side Brentford.
