Newcastle United fans will love Kieran Trippier response as defender discusses his new role

Kieran Trippier has come out fighting and declared that he will do everything he can to help his teammates ‘on and off the pitch’ between now and the end of the season.

The Three Lions right-back is one of the key reasons behind Newcastle’s recent turnaround since his £12million move from Atletico Madrid, scoring two free-kick goals to help drag the Magpies out of the relegation zone.

Newcastle supporters - and Eddie Howe - have been blown away by his on-field leadership qualities too, with the Toon boss handing Trippier the armband in the absence of long-serving skipper Jamaal Lascelles.

However, the 31-year-old fractured his metatarsal in the 1-0 win against Aston Villa and will be out for up to eight weeks - a devastating blow to the Magpies’ survival hopes.

Trippier refuses to feel disheartened by the setback and revealed he will be travelling to Brentford this weekend to help his teammates.

“Yeah, it was a difficult moment (the injury), with the way that I started at Newcastle,” he told BBC Radio 5 Live.

“It’s football, these things happen. The most important thing is that I'm positive about the injury. It is what it is. I’m an experienced player now so I know how to deal with it.

“Obviously, I’ll be travelling to the game for the weekend.

“The lads got a good result against West Ham and the most important thing for me is to encourage the lads and be a voice in the dressing room and around the training ground.

“I would love to be able to play with my teammates to help them but I'll be supporting the lads. They know that - it’s all about supporting them now.”
