Newcastle United suffered a third consecutive defeat in the Premier League as they were hammered 5-1 by Tottenham Hotspur in North London. The Magpies had taken the lead five minutes before the break courtesy of Fabian Schar’s free-kick but were pegged back almost instantly as Ben Davies headed in Heung-min Son’s corner.
Eddie Howe’s side then seemingly fell apart in the opening minutes of the second half as they found the game beyond them 10 minutes after the interval thanks to goals from Matt Doherty and Son. Emerson Royal and Steven Bergwijn later compounded a miserable afternoon for Newcastle as they added to Spurs’ tally with neat finishes from inside the area.
Newcastle remain nine points clear of the bottom three despite the defeat but have dropped down to 15 th position following the weekend’s results after Brentford’s shock 4-1 win at Chelsea. Here is how supporters have reacted to the result.

@sparxx: “It’s a problem if we don’t learn from today. It’s a problem if we continue thinking of who we might be, instead of who we are. Over confidence can be a kick in the pants. Back to work.”
@FI_360: “Interesting to see how Howe deals with this. Without over reacting, this needs known that the performance today has been so far beyond unacceptable. More whinges and arms thrown around in a half than we’ve seen for four months. Attitudes have stunk.”
@agbnufc_: “After a terrible performance and warm weather training to recover, we put in an even worse performance? Do these players think it’s job done or something? Because it isn’t. Shameful the lot.”
@milessteven001: “No need for massive inquest, we got beat heavily by a much better team which is kind of to be expected every now and then given where we are on our journey currently. Not our finest hour, but it’s not time to panic and we move on.”
@Luke_NUFC: “Nothing to take from this game to be honest. No one really looked up for it. Something needs to change before Friday because if we play like that again we’re in for another batting.”
@N1U8FC92: “Very poor performance unfortunately. Let’s see what these players do against Wolves. They have to give us better. Especially Maxi as he was shocking.”
@bethmann99: “Shambolic performance from start to finish. So many gaps all over the pitch and we just allowed Spurs to run through us. Bruno is the only player who should be guaranteed a start in the next game.”
@GlenHobbs1974: “Beaten by a much better team. No tactics at all. Got to do much better against Wolves. Had to say this, start Murphy and bench Maximin next game.”
