Here's the latest Newcastle United evening headlines on Tuesday, 18 January.
Diego Carlos 'tells Sevilla he wants to leave'
Diego Carlos has told Sevilla he wants to leave Sevilla FC with Newcastle waiting in the wing.
That's according to Sky Sports, who claim the Brazilian has told the club he wants to move on from the Spanish outfit.
It's the latest development in Eddie Howe's pursuit of the centre-back, after reports in Spain claim Sevilla had rejected the Magpies latest advances.
Newcastle were told it would take considerably more that the £25million offered for Carlos' services, with some outlets in Spain claiming it could take twice that amount to see Sevilla part ways.
The defenders representatives have been taken aback by the Magpies pursuit of the defender.
The scary Duvan Zapata verdict made by former Atalanta captain amid Newcastle links
Former Atalanta captain Papu Gomez claims Newcastle 'target' Duvan Zapata 'is so big his shorts look like underwear.'
The Argentinian playmaker was Zapata's teammate at La Dea before moving to Sevilla in 2021.
Newcastle are reportedly interested in making Zapata their third signing of the January transfer window after reports claimed a '£100k deal' had been agreed.
However, Atalanta are reported to have rejected the Magpies loan bid, with an option of a £25million move to Tyneside.
The 6ft2 striker has scored 78 goals in all competition in 152 appearances for the Serie A outfit, and has established himself as one of the most feared strikers in the division.
Newcastle deal rocked Arsenal player as Kenedy fear addressed
For all the money Newcastle United's new owners will spend this month, it is easy to forget that the Magpies already have a player on their books who the previous regime 'broke all the rules' to sign.
It is coming up a year since Joe Willock embarked on an unforgettable loan spell at St James' Park, but the 22-year-old has yet to come close to hitting those heights since joining the club on a permanent basis last summer.
Willock's attitude is certainly not in question - the midfielder was keen to encourage and applaud his team-mates as they warmed up against Watford despite being left out of the starting line-up again on Saturday - but this has been a testing period.
As well as having to contend with COVID, Willock has been playing catch up at various points. Willock did not have a proper pre-season at Arsenal and even took painkilling injections so that he could play after suffering a freak toe injury earlier in the campaign.
A change of manager has also brought with it a change of role since Willock completed his £25m move from Arsenal.
Inside story of forgotten Newcastle playmaker's 'culture shock' loan after Steve Nickson move
Rodrigo Vilca's long-term future with Newcastle United looks in doubt following a loan spell at Doncaster Rovers which proved to be a 'culture shock'.
The Peruvian playmaker netted twice in 13 appearances for the League One outfit, and is reportedly set for a temporary return home with champions Alianza Lima.
Vilca's return from the Keepmoat Stadium came at his own request, and it is ChronicleLive's understanding that the 22-year-old remains keen for a chance to stake his claim for a first-team spot.
The attacking midfielder agreed a four-year deal at St James' Park in October last year, signing for £225,000 from Deportivo Muncipal following a recommendation to chief scout Steve Nickson.
However, Vilca is yet to make a senior appearance in black-and-white, and a farewell post on social media to Doncaster fans was met with indifference after a forgettable stint at the Keepmoat Stadium.
Newcastle United U18 skipper Jamie Miley focused on Sunderland after Youth Cup success
Newcastle United Under-18s captain Jamie Miley set his sights on a derby win against Sunderland after his side secured their passage into the fifth round of the FA Youth Cup.
The young Magpies held off a spirited comeback from their Colchester United counterparts to claim a 3-2 win in an entertaining fourth round tie at St James Park on Monday night.
Peter Ramage’s side took a narrow lead into half-time thanks to an own-goal but looked well on their way to a comfortable win as Callum McNally and Michael Ndiweni gave them a three-goal advantage as the final 15 minutes arrived.
U’s striker Samson Tovide gave the visitors some hope when he beat Max Thompson and substitute T’aizo Marcel-Dilaver set United nerves jangling when he netted in the third of 11 additional minutes.
Despite being disrupted by a number of injuries, the young Magpies held on the claim a hard-earned win and set up a trip to Blackpool in the next round.
A league visit to Sunderland is next up for Miley and his team-mates - and the United midfielder revealed he is already focusing on the visit to Wearside after enjoying a memorable night at Gallowgate.
