A round-up of the latest Newcastle United headlines this evening on Tuesday, 11 October.
Callum Wilson labels Newcastle team-mate Bruno Guimaraes as a 'superstar'
Callum Wilson has labelled his Newcastle United teammate Bruno Guimaraes as a "superstar" after his sensational display in Saturday's 5-1 win over Brentford.
Guimaraes scored his second ever Premier League brace to help Newcastle climb into the top six with back-to-back victories for the first time this season. The Brazilian opened the scoring with a bullet header inside 21 minutes and crowned a fantastic performance with a stunning long range strike into the bottom corner.
Wilson has likened Guimaraes' style to a kid playing in the playground with his friends and believes the midfielder is constantly adding more to his game.
“When he first joined, it took him a few weeks to settle," Wilson told BBC Radio 5 Live. "I guess it was a new league, a new team, a new environment, especially in the North East of England when you just come from a foreign country, with the wind and the cold up here."
Newcastle United chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan makes UK trip as PIF commit to £2bn football investment
Newcastle United chairman Yasir Al Rumayyan was in the UK on Tuesday as The London Stock Exchange (LSG) listed the the first-ever green bond issued by a sovereign wealth fund. Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF), governed by Al-Rumayyan, are behind the $3billion (£2.7bn) listing, which is already eight times oversubscribed with investors.
Green bonds are designed to raise funds for new and existing projects which deliver environmental benefits and a more sustainable economy. PIF say their bond highlights Saudi Arabia's bid to reach Net Zero emissions by 2060.
Al-Rumayyan was at the Market Open Ceremony at the LSG just days after Newcastle fans marked the one-year anniversary of the PIF takeover. The chairman wasn't in attendance at St James' Park for the 5-1 win at Brentford and it is unclear if he will stay in the UK ahead of the Magpies' trip to Old Trafford to face Manchester United on Sunday.
Miguel Almiron now 'unplayable' after Eddie Howe confidence trick and 'world class' Bruno
Newcastle United defender Dan Burn has hailed 'world class' Bruno Guimaraes and 'unplayable' Miguel Almiron ahead of the Magpies' trip to Old Trafford to face Manchester United. The South American duo have scored five of Newcastle's last nine goals between them, with Almiron's goal against Brentford adding to his brace at Fulham.
Brazilian midfielder Guimaraes notched twice in Saturday's 5-1 success over the Bees, his first goals of what has been an injury-hit season so far. However, now back to full fitness, United's No 39 caught the eye of fans and pundits alike with another dominant display.
Geordie defender Burn has been a key part in Newcastle's transformation under Howe, stabilising the defence and providing a solid platform for the attacking players to build on. And he says he feels a big part of his job is getting the ball to the likes of Bruno and Almiron and letting them get on with it.
Jamie Carragher sees Bruno Guimaraes' Newcastle United impact perfectly with Alan Shearer comparison
Bruno Guimaraes received the Monday Night Football treatment on Sky Sports this week as Jamie Carragher and Roy Keane waxed lyrical over Newcastle United's newest hero. The Brazilian's stunning performance in the 5-1 victory over Brentford has propelled him into the national spotlight once more, with questions being asked as to whether he is the best to have ever lined up for the Magpies.
Guimaraes ' stock has done nothing but rise since he swapped Lyon for Tyneside back in January, and while some are choosing to keep their feet on the ground, many fans are starting to put Bruno in the same conversation as previous club legends.
Carragher himself knows a thing or two about Newcastle greats who have dazzled, entertained and lifted supporters off their seats at St James' Park, having had the misfortune of marking one or two of them during his Liverpool days. And the former central defender has it spot on when he says Guimaraes is having the same impact with the supporters as Geordie heroes of yesteryear, including the likes of Kevin Keegan and Alan Shearer.
'It was just beautiful' - Newcastle have potential Financial Fair Play solution...who loves tea
Garang Kuol has not even played a game for Newcastle United, but it did not take the 18-year-old long to be recognised after he made his way to his seat in the away end at Craven Cottage earlier this month. In fact, Kuol was mobbed by Geordies before a ball was even kicked that afternoon as the new signing got a little taste of what life on the black-and-white tiger was all about.
It capped a memorable week in a scarcely believable six months for Kuol. The highly-rated forward has made his professional debut for the Central Coast Mariners; scored four goals in nine competitive games for his club without yet making a start; gone viral following his stunning cameo for the A-League All-Stars against Barcelona; and become the youngest player to play for Australia since Harry Kewell. Oh and there is also the small matter of travelling thousands of miles to sign for Newcastle last month. It is the stuff of dreams, particularly when you consider the journey the Kuols have been on after fleeing war-torn South Sudan, via Egypt, to start their new lives in Australia.
Kuol's parents, Mawien and Antonita, ran a dry cleaners in Shepparton and used to wash Goulburn Valley Suns' kits to help pay the $1,600 that enabled four of their sons to train with the National Premier League side when they were starting out. Former Suns coach Craig Carley knows what the family went through more than most.
