Newcastle United evening headlines: Magpies must double Diego Carlos bid, fans' Lingard verdict

Here's a round-up of your Newcastle United evening headlines on Wednesday, 19 January.

New bid for defender, Dembele tension and Burnley resilience

Monaco young gun Benoit Badiashile has been the subject of a fresh bid from Newcastle United.

An initial offer of €40million was turned down by Monaco for the 20-year-old but reports in France have suggested the Magpies will go back for another attempt.

Newcastle have been chasing Diego Carlos of Sevilla for two weeks with that deal still very much ongoing.

Badiashile, however, is currently injured and ruled out until the end of next month with a hamstring injury so Newcastle are hardly racing to get this deal done in time for the weekend.

However, the arrival of Badiashile would underline Newcastle's vision for the future in terms of recruiting younger players.

Newcastle United fans give their verdict on Jesse Lingard transfer claim

Newcastle United fans have overwhelmingly backed a January move for Manchester United attacker Jesse Lingard.

The Manchester Evening News reports the Magpies are working on a loan deal for the England international, with his contract at Old Trafford due to expire in the summer.

Newcastle have repeatedly been linked with a move for Lingard over the last calendar year, although the report indicates the 29-year-old would still prefer a second spell at West Ham over a switch to St James' Park.

Tottenham have also been linked with a move on a permanent basis in the summer, but the Red Devils are understood to be reluctant to strengthen a top-four rival.

Lingard has not been included in Ralf Rangnick's matchday squad for Wednesday's encounter at Brentford due to an ankle injury.

Defenders are understandably the priority on Tyneside, with Eddie Howe's side only recording one clean sheet so far this season.

However, that has not stopped Magpies supporters backing a temporary move for Lingard to bolster the side in the bid for survival.

Diego Carlos offers latest Newcastle transfer twist with social media post

Newcastle United transfer target Diego Carlos has seemingly confirmed he is set to feature in Sevilla's upcoming fixture with Valencia.

The Magpies pursuit of the centre-back has been well documented, although the player himself has given manager Julen Lopetegui his word he will not prove disruptive behind the scenes.

Carlos has outlined his desire to seal a St James' Park switch this window, but Newcastle are yet to agree a fee for the 28-year-old.

Reports in the Spanish press indicate the La Liga title-chasers are determined to keep hold of the Brazil international, and only a 'dizzying offer' will tempt them to sell.

Newcastle's latest approach was understood to be in the region of £30m, but Sevilla are under no pressure to sell and are protected by a staggering £80m release clause.

Newcastle United stay silent on Jesse Lingard loan bid

Newcastle United are refusing to comment on widespread talk that they have approached Manchester United to sign Jesse Lingard.

But Chronicle Live understands that Manchester United aren't open to the idea of releasing him on loan and want him as a squad player until the end of the campaign at least.

Newcastle were invited into the race to sign Lingard back in October when the winger and his representatives sat in the Shepherd Offshore box.

Since then Lingard has turned down numerous contract offers from Man United.

Having been linked with West Ham and Tottenham Hotspur in January it has emerged that the Red Devils don't want to sell him to a direct competitor for a Champions League place.

Ideally they want him to sign the new deal on the table.

Diego Carlos agrees to cooperate with Sevilla in bid to win Newcastle United move

Diego Carlos will play for Sevilla tonight against Valencia if he asked to do so after giving Julen Lopetegui his word that he won't cause any disruptions behind the scenes with the La Liga title-chasers.

Newcastle United's bid for Carlos is the talk of the dressing room at Sevilla but it isn't being fuelled by the player himself as the story is doing the rounds in the Spanish newspapers after the Magpies upped their bid.

Carlos has notified the club via his representatives that he wants to join Newcastle but as United learned in their unsuccessful pursuit for Unai Emery with Villarreal and the signing of Kieran Trippier from Atletico Madrid, game day isn't the best time to conduct business in Spain.

Villarreal were irked by the approach for Emery on the night they faced Young Boys Berne in the Champions League while Atletico wanted their recent Copa del Rey tie with Majadahonda concluded before signing off his transfer.

Sevilla don't want to sell Carlos and are yet to agree a price with the Spanish Press reporting this morning that only a "dizzying offer" will result in club president José Castro Carmona, renowned for keeping his nerve in the transfer market, sanctioning the sale.
