Newcastle United have been instilled as second favourites to win this season's Carabao Cup, according to odds taken from Sky Bet. The Magpies are priced at 5/1, behind only Manchester City at 7/4, who have won the competition six times in the last nine seasons.
After overcoming Crystal Palace on penalties in the third round, Newcastle were handed another all Premier League home tie in last night's draw against Bournemouth. Ties are set to take place in the week commencing December 19, just a day after the World Cup final, which could mean club's are forced to put out some makeshift teams depending on their involvement in the tournament.
Newcastle are deemed as more likely to win the competition than both Manchester United and Liverpool. The former have been handed a home tie with Burnley in the next round, while the latter are set to visit favourites Man City.

That means in the quarter-finals, one of Liverpool and City, as well as Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur will have already been knocked out. Arsenal were beaten at home by Brighton in the previous round, while Chelsea and Spurs were both defeated 2-0 at Man City and Nottingham Forest respectively.
Newcastle have enjoyed a superb start to the season as they sit third in the Premier League but are still searching for their piece of major silverware since their Fairs Cup triumph in 1969. They are also on the hunt for their first major domestic trophy since the FA Cup in 1955.
