Newcastle eye Saints youngster
Newcastle are set to challenge Chelsea in the race to sign Southampton teenager Tyler Dibling, according to Football Insider.
The Magpies have been monitoring the 16-year-old since his extraordinary hat-trick against them in the Premier League 2 in April. Dibling scored all three of his goals from outside the box in the first half as his Saints B team registered a 4-2 win over Newcastle at St James’ Park in late-April. Chelsea are also interested in Dibling as they look to revamp their youth set-up.
Dibling has been compared to Gareth Bale by some supporters and Ralph Hasenhuttl has admitted that it is always “difficult to keep” young players of such quality at the club.
The Saints boss told Hampshire Live in April: “We know his qualities and we are not jumping on this; we try to keep it calm. He is one of the shining players in our youth set-up, we know that, meanwhile, it is always very difficult to keep them in our club.
“The good thing is that we see how good he is, the bad thing is other clubs are seeing it, but you can be sure we will try to push him and to support him. I think he represents one of the good ones.
Asensio U-Turn
Newcastle United target Marco Asensio has decided to stay at Real Madrid, according to Spanish outlet AS. Asensio, who has also been linked with Liverpool and AC Milan, was expected to leave the Santiago Bernabeu this summer with his contract set to expire at the end of next season.
Los Blancos were expected to entice Kylian Mbappe to the Spanish capital this summer, but his transfer collapse, coupled with the departures of Isco, Gareth Bale and Luka Jovic has convinced the Spanish international that he may still have a future at the club.
Collins chooses Wolves
Wolverhampton Wanderers have completed the signing of centre-back Nathan Collins from Burnley. The Republic of Ireland international has agreed a five-year deal with the option of a further 12 months.
The 21-year-old was shortlisted as a target for Newcastle and Leeds earlier this summer but instead becomes Bruno Lage’s first signing of the summer transfer window. He played 22 times for the Clarets last term, after completing a move from Stoke City last summer, scoring two goals.
