Here is your latest 4am Newcastle United transfer digest.
Toney latest
The former Newcastle United striker has been repeatedly linked with a return to St James' Park after impressing in the Premier League with Brentford. Toney has followed up a 12-goal haul in his maiden top-flight campaign with 18 so far this term.
Newcastle bolstered their attacking ranks with a club-record deal for Alexander Isak last summer, and landed Anthony Gordon at the second attempt in the mid-season window. As a result, Football Insider claim the Magpies are 'not planning' to sign Toney this summer with Eddie Howe said to have 'changed his mind' on a prospective transfer.
The report outlines Brentford would be open to the sale of their prized asset, but would demand £50 million to allow the 27-year-old to leave. The title claim Harvey Barnes, Mason Mount, and James Ward-Prowse are currently the top of Newcastle's 'shopping list', with prospective 'bargains' if Leicester and Southampton are relegated.

Inacio scouting mission
Multiple reports in recent weeks have indicated Newcastle are keen to bring in a centre-back this summer to challenge and eventually take Fabian Schar's place in the starting eleven. The Switzerland international has enjoyed his best season to date in a black-and-white shirt, but will celebrate his 32nd birthday next season.
One potential option linked is Sporting Lisbon defender Goncalo Inacio, with a recent report outlining a £45m offer could be enough to land the 21-year-old. Now, Sport Witness via Record claim Newcastle sent out a scout this week to watch the potential recruit in action in Sporting's Europa League exit to Juventus.
Inacio is considered one of the most promising defensive talents on the continent, and is contracted to his current club until the summer of 2026. Newcastle would face stiff competition for his signature however, with reported interest from Champions League clubs and domestic rivals Manchester United.
