Newcastle transfer gossip with Tiemoue Bakayo claim and Conor Gallagher twist

Here is your latest 4am Newcastle United transfer digest.

Bakayoko claim

It is easy to forget that Tiemoue Bakayoko is actually still a Chelsea player. The former Monaco star made the move to Stamford Bridge in 2017 in a reported £40 million deal, but following a solitary season in English football the midfielder has spent the last four campaigns out on loan.

The 28-year-old is set to enter his third season with AC Milan, but could see his latest temporary agreement cut short having fallen out of favour under Stefano Pioli. Newly-promoted Serie A side Monza are considered the favourites to sign Bakayoko ahead of this week's transfer deadline.

However, Italian outlet CalcioMercato claim Newcastle and Nottingham Forest are both interested in giving the midfielder a second chance to impress in the Premier League. Bakayoko still has two years left to run on his Blues' contract, and Milan are said to be keen to avoid meeting the requirements in their two-year deal to make the transfer permanent.

Gallagher bid

The England international is one of four fringe Chelsea stars who have been regularly linked with Newcastle in recent weeks. Gallagher has started the last two matches under Thomas Tuchel, but was shown a red card in their home victory over Leicester City on Saturday.

The 22-year-old impressed on loan with Crystal Palace last season, and Patrick Vieira is said to have launched a late bid to make this move permanent. According to the Times, the Eagles have submitted an offer in the region of £27 million.

Palace are said to prefer a permanent deal ahead of a second loan agreement. It is unclear at this stage whether Gallagher would be keen to leave Stamford Bridge or fight for his place in Tuchel's side.
