DFDS sails once a day from Newcastle ( Port of Tyne in North Shields) to Amsterdam's port. There are bus transfers available into the Amsterdam city centre from the ferry terminal.
To state the obvious, flying is a lot quicker than taking the ferry. But flying is not for everybody and you can often save money on fares by taking the ferry instead.
But you may also want to take into account the money you would spend on an overnight sail - the dinner buffet alone is priced at £23 - compared to flying in just over an hour.
