Newcastle United transfer target Garang Kuol missed out on the chance to prove his worth on the big stage with Australia on Thursday, failing to make it off the bench in the 1-0 win over neighbours New Zealand. The 18-year-old prospect earned a surprise call-up to the national side last month and could have had the chance to show Magpies chiefs exactly how good he is during the international friendly.
Newcastle 's very own Chris Wood started the game for New Zealand but won't be able to take any form of scouting report home for the Magpies after failing to come up against the Central Coast Marines youngster during his own 71 minutes on the pitch. Kuol has flourished at the Australian side over the last 12 months and reports suggest he has already been offered to Newcastle, who could potentially loan him out upon arrival.
Eddie Howe's side have not commented on the reports so far but it is well known that sporting director Dan Ashworth is keen on raising the quality levels of the club's youth setup. However, reports north of the border suggest Celtic may also be interested in signing the teenage sensation due to manager Ange Postecoglou and his Australia connection.

The Bhoys boss was Socceroos manager from 2013 to 2017 and helped the country to 22 wins in 49 games during his tenure. Now, Postecoglou has been asked about Kuol's meteoric rise and admits he is certainly a fan of the teenager.
"It's great to see. We love young talent, we always get excited by it. He looks like he's got something special about him, which is great," he told KeepUp. "He's in the national team now and that's another great platform for him.
"A lot of somebody's football career is about timing and he might be timing his run perfectly. Going to a World Cup at such a young age and hopefully making an impact and changing his life.
"It's often spoken about but how closely the immigration story has been connected to football in Australia and what a key role it has played in our growth as a nation and our growth as a sport - and once again it is at the forefront. I hope he goes well."
Postecoglou isn't the only manager to notice Kuol's talent in recent months, with Barcelona boss Xavi publicly praising the attacker after a friendly over the summer. Kuol may get the chance to showcase his talent on the world stage later this year amid talk he could be included in Australia's 2022 World Cup squad.
