Newcastle United are plotting an audacious swoop on Chelsea for four players in a late transfer window move as Eddie Howe tries to bolster his squad before September 1.
The Magpies have expressed an interest in Callum Hudson-Odoi, Conor Gallagher and Christian Pulisic, according to the Telegraph. Newcastle are also keen on a move for Armando Broja, but would only be able to sign one Chelsea player on loan and they do not have the capability to sign multiple players on permanent contracts.
This is due to the financial constraints that have been placed upon Howe, with the Magpies boss only allowed to spend a certain amount per-window as Newcastle's Saudi-led owners slowly re-build for the future. They have made just two signings this summer, as Nick Pope arrived in a £10million move from Burnley, while highly-rated Netherlands international Sven Botman made the switch from Lille.
However, Howe is keen to bolster his forward line before the transfer window slams shut and has identified Chelsea duo Pulisic and Hudson-Odoi as two players who can give them more threat from wide areas. Both were named on the bench for the Blues as they drew 2-2 with Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday and could be available this month.
Pulisic started just 11 Premier League matches last season, scoring five times and grabbing two assists. He did start the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup final, as Chelsea lost on penalties to Liverpool on both occasions. But the arrival of Raheem Sterling from Manchester City is set to further reduce Pulisic's minutes, although Timo Werner has re-joined RB Leipzig on loan and Romelu Lukaku has returned to Inter Milan.
Meanwhile, Hudson-Odoi is even further down the pecking order at the Blues, and with his contract up in 2024, he could be allowed to leave permanently to seek regular game time. The 21-year-old began his Chelsea career promisingly under Maurizio Sarri and then Frank Lampard, but has since struggled for minutes, with Hudson-Odoi featuring just 15 times in the Premier League last season. Southampton and Leicester City are interested in the talented winger, with Newcastle now firmly in the race.
After a successful loan spell at Crystal Palace, Gallagher has come on from the substitutes bench in each of Chelsea's first two matches and could be looking for a regular starting spot. The 22-year-old featured in all but four league matches for Palace last term, scoring eight goals in the process as he won their Player of the Year award.
Newcastle are also looking for another central striker to support Callum Wilson up front, with Chris Wood firmly out of Howe's plans this season. Broja, who impressed on loan at Southampton in 2021/22, is an option with the striker hoping to force through a move away from Stamford Bridge.
