Newcastle supporters excited over key Eddie Howe team change vs Southampton

Bruno Guimaraes will make his first start for Newcastle United after being named in the starting eleven for Thursday night's encounter at Southampton. The Brazil international replaces his compatriot Joelinton in the only change from the side which won against Brighton last time out.

Howe had resisted the call to start the marquee January signing in recent weeks, with the midfield trio of Joelinton, Jonjo Shelvey and Joe Willock all impressing. The former Lyon playmaker has been restricted to a handful of late cameo appearances during the Magpies' unbeaten run.

Emil Krafth and Jacob Murphy both keep their places in the side, with Javier Manquillo forced to settle for a place on the bench while Joelinton (injury) and Allan Saint-Maximin (illness) both do not feature in the matchday squad. Howe has kept faith with Dan Burn and Fabian Schar in defence, meaning captain Jamaal Lascelles remains a substitute.
