Newcastle star Kieran Trippier could be available for selection again with important 10 days ahead

Kieran Trippier is working around the clock to be back in action with Newcastle United and will step up his fitness drive this week.

Understandably, United aren't prepared to take risks with the valuable England international after he suffered a metatarsal fracture in the 1-0 win over Aston Villa in early February. But the feeling is he will play again in Newcastle's final handful of fixtures.

The former Atletico Madrid star has been working one on one with former Three Lions and Liverpool physio Dave Galley behind the scenes at Newcastle's Benton training base. Trippier is back on the grass and has his boots again, much to the delight of Eddie Howe and his coaching staff.

With no timeframe or specific date set by Howe and his staff nobody is naming a game in which Trippier will be back for at this stage. But Chronicle Live understands that Trippier may be available again for squad selection in the next 10 days if things continue to go well.

Whether he plays a part in the home game with Liverpool or the away clash at Man City remains to be seen but he is definitely moving in the right direction and both his crutches - which leaped to fame in some of the team photos after wins earlier this season - have long since been ditched, as well as the protective boot which was removed over a month ago.

Trippier's presence in the dressing room has been vital in recent weeks with the former Burnley and Spurs star using his experience to help guide team-mates. It is difficult to believe he has only played four times in the Premier League for the Magpies with three wins and a draw during his run in the side, as well as two perfectly executed free-kicks against Everton and Aston Villa.
